The next Musselburgh Roads Cycle Club Social ride will be held on Sunday 29th October, departing the Musselburgh old Town Hall at 9am. A social pace, no higher than 16mph, will be followed as we breeze through the autumn lanes to a café stop.
We’ve been racing the MRCC Nico35 3up TTT with two teams riding this year. The following day, Sunday 8th March, saw 4 riders head down to race in Northumberland at the GS Metro APR. Saturday 14th March was the tough Gifford Road Races where our new kit was on display in the A race. And the early season classic Corrieri 10 TT on Sunday 15th also had representation from the club. Over and above all this Tuesday and Sunday training runs continue.
Plenty of racing opportunities coming up in the near future with Road Races and ‘classic’ early season hilly TTs a plenty. Check out the entry details on the BC calendar to start with, or have a chat with one of the club members. The new kit can be seen on the club facebook page at Musselburgh Roads Cycling Club.
The finest hilly TT you will ever find, on a circuit so good you get to go round twice.
Sunday 19th April 2015. Entry details are up on the BC race calendar.

230 odd signed up to ride. Given the forecast, 129 brave souls signed on and started, 65 finished. Horrible weather conditions this year made it a bit of an epic.
This popular early season Audax returns after an absence last year. Same excellent route on an anti clockwise circuit starting from outside our clubrooms on Sunday 22 February 2015. First group are off at 10am with check points at the top of the ‘Rigg’, in Dunbar and in Haddington. 65 miles of fine East Lothian countryside to test the 230+ riders that have entered. Lets hope the weather is favourable. If you are riding – please watch the roads, particularly on the descent from the ‘Rigg’ down towards the Garvald junction, potholes galore near the cattle grid. T ‘n Buns will be available back at the Old Town Hall in Musselburgh after.
The New Year gathering and presentation of club trophies will be on Friday 10th January 2014 at the Kings Manor Hotel, Milton Road East, Edinburgh. Further details will follow later.
A bitterly cold east wind, wet roads, mud and potholes greeted the 27 teams in this years MRCC Team Trial Trial around East Saltoun and Bolton. Thankfully the snow stayed away. Quickest team round the 24 miles were Drew Sharkey, Craig Dale and Dave Caesar one of two bicycleworks.com teams riding. Their winning time of 1:00:18 showing how tough a day it was – but it is only March after all! Thanks to Dave Urquhart and his team of marshals officials and helpers on the day.

Sunday 21st October on a beautiful sunny Scottish Borders morning at Stow. ‘Big Stow’ was the venue this year with a field of 40 riders taking to the steep slopes for what was also the ESCA hill climb championships. Dougie Kirkham was the sole representative from Musselburgh this year although a few others rode down to watch and provide support. Steven Lawley of the Bicycle Works was ESCA champ and Jennifer Taylor of West lothian Clarion the ladies champ. Glasgow Couriers won the team prize and Grant Ferguson racing for Boardman Elite was the overall hill climb champion. Follow this link to a good article on the event with results and pics.
It’s back!! Make a date for the return of this excellent early season trundle around beautiful East Lothian – Sunday 17th February 2013.
It’s that time of year again. Winter runs start Sunday 28th October, 9am outside the clubrooms and each Sunday thereafter. Suitable for all abilities and will probably include a cafe stop somewhere. Bring your mudguards please, drinks and a snack just in case. Nobody will be left behind and we will wait and assist with puncture repairs or other mechanicals. Just turn up and join in.
The AGM will be held at 1400hrs on Sunday 18th November 2012 at the clubrooms in Musselburgh.
The annual end of season Freewheeling and barbecue takes place on Sunday 11th November near Windymains on the B6371 south of Humbie. The Freewheeling for those that might be new to it is a bit of end of season fun, although some take it very seriously! No pedalling allowed and free wheel downhill and see how far you can get. There’s a fine trophy for the winner. While that’s going on the Dum Up barbecue will be hotting up nearby to keep you warm. Open to club members, friends and family of the club and a very warm welcome to any prospective members young and old. It will start at midday, although there’s normally a gentle ride out from the clubrooms at Musselburgh. We’ll post a meeting time for the ride out soon.
Derek Timmins and Dougie Kirkham represented the club at this closed road event out near Linlithgow. Both rode a fixed gear, Derek a mammoth 48×19 and Dougie a measley 46×19. There were one or two other fixed gear riders out as well on the 0.7 mile climb. Derek was up in 2:57 and Dougie in 3:01. 80 odd riders turned out to race and were supported by a good crowd with cow bells and a piper at the finish. An excellent event promoted by West Lothian Clarion who had also arranged for the races to be filmed by the Adventure Show. Some very good rides by youths and juniors, with the juniors having their very own hill. Encouraging to see so many young riders taking part. Link to results and photos on Braveheart.
